This application Azimut records automatically the places you visit! It is not meant to record with a killer precision all your positions / places in a day (other apps do that better on the App Store), this application is meant to be able to remind you when and where you have been - and will send you a notification each time you visit a new “place”. A new place will be recognised after a few minutes - usually 5-6 minutes - that you are not moving / staying in the same place. So if you just get out for your home for just a drive, with no stops, our app will not record your route, that is not the right app… and again there are other apps doing so on the Apple Store - but if you go to buy food in your local store, do sport in a gym center or whatever, it will record on your device your position / your place. And that is not it! This application, once running in the background and your authorisation granted to have access to your position, will record your places with almost zero battery usage! Really! Due to a great feature of the Apple location framework! And finally our goal is to provide as much as cool statistics on your places visited! So to understand your daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly places! And rolling and average distances done! If you think of further interested statistics and/or features, please do not hesitate to email us!

This application was created as a family exercice to teach how to code to our teenager in Swift around the Apple location framework as a start. Especially having in mind strong ethics as part of a responsible technology design when handling personal data information. It is why our application does not collect your data. That is the most secure manner to be sure to limit any risks. Our application is free but the known quote is “if it is free, you are the product” - and consequently most of the applications will collect your data and provide it to “third parties” to be processed for mainly for marketing and advertisements. So our challenge in this application is to never collect your data! (“Collect” refers to transmitting data off the device in a way that allows you and/or your third-party partners to access it for a period longer than what is necessary to service the transmitted request in real time - and so “Third-party partners” refers to analytics tools, advertising networks, third-party SDKs, or other external vendors whose code you’ve added to your app.). Our application is therefore free but we added a tip for snacks in the settings menu of our application so you can buy us a croissant, a salad or a burger! So if you enjoy this application, do not hesitate to treat us! And to note that it was a good technology exercice to learn how to use the in-app purchase framework.

For this application to function correctly, you will need you to grant us access to the location services - not the parameter “once” but the “always” one. Again, this application is NOT collecting any data and so NOT uploading any of your positions / places to the internet / cloud. You will need to grant access too to the notification service to be notified when a new place is recognised, although this is practical, this is not mandatory to grant access for the application to unction correctly.

Another very interesting part of this application is the statistics dashboard to understand when and where you went. The first set of statistics are "rolling" stats from todays date per day, week, month, quarter, semester, year, etc. The great feature is that we calculate the distance between your places which gives you an idea of your travel distance on these corresponding periods. The second set of data is similar but on average (instead of rolling). The killer comparison to make is to check your rolling data against your average data so you can understand if you travel distances are more or less than your habits on a given period.

Enjoy!
